Café Supervisor – Job Specification

Reports to:                   Site Manager

Location:                     Go Ape Forest Cafe, Aberfoyle

Salary:                         up to £18,644 FTE per annum – dependant on experience

                                    Accommodation is not provided

Contract Type:            Permanent

Working Hours:          Average 16 hours per week, flexible to meet operational needs

                                    Hours may increase to 40 hours/week upon successful completion of probationary period.

                                    Weekend working will be required: 6 weekend days every 4 weeks

Holiday:                      FTE 25 days holiday plus 8 Bank Holidays per annum

                                    Bank Holiday work will be awarded as day off in lieu

The Cafe Supervisor’s role is to successfully run the café provision at Go Ape and ensure customer’s expectations of food and beverage and customer service are met.  This may include any aspect of café operation including equipment, facilities, health and safety, customer car, food hygiene and administration. 

The role will also involve working with Adventure Forest Ltd.’s management team to achieve the best possible quality of food and beverage provision, in particular the Operations Manager

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Café Management

At all times, and in accordance with company procedures and training:

  • To set and maintain, the highest standards of customer service in the café 
  • To manage the team and ensure they are fully trained in all aspects of café management
  • To be responsible for stock ordering, invoicing, monitoring and control of stocks and wastage, undertaking stock takes at regular intervals with the assistance of the management team
  • To work with the management team, on purchasing and other projects as required
  • Ensuring paperwork is to the required standard as outlined by Operations and Site Managers
  • Daily checks that HACCP in place
  • To maintain and train café staff on EPOS and/or stock control system, in conjunction with Operations Manager
  • To ensure good timekeeping and performance by staff in conjunction with the Site Manager, and to comply at all times with the security procedures and uniform for staff as instructed
  • To assist the Go Ape Management team, to maintain the standards of hygiene and health and safety at all times and throughout all the catering operations
  • To ensure good communications with the Operations Manager in order to effectively manage the café operations and meet targets 


Health & Safety

At all times, and in accordance with company procedures and training:

  • Effectively deliver training, maintain accurate and effective records and ensuring highest standards of customer service
  • Comply with all health and safety policy, measures and legislation
  • Follow all Health and Safety procedures and safe systems of work
  • Ensure your own safety and those with whom you are working
  • Ensure the safe operation of the cafe and use equipment in a safe manner
  • Maintain the security of the cafe and equipment
  • Apply first aid when necessary appropriate to your skill level
  • To assist in the management of cleaning, maintenance and instructional staff teams
  • Report all safety matters to the Operations Manager


Financial Management

  • Operate the till and take receipt of payments
  • Ensure all cash, cheque and credit card transactions are completed according to company directives
  • Bank payments, as requested by management team


Café Management

  • Ensure all administration, documentation, logs and records are compiled, updated and stored as per company procedures
  • Remove litter from and maintain the café in good, clean and serviceable order
  • Notify the Site Manager of any site problems
  • Attend meetings with management, as required
  • Work at other Go Ape locations if required



  • Meet communication standards set by AFL Management
  • Business development in conjunction with AFL management
  • Build and maintain good working relationship with key parties including:

o   Go Ape personnel, suppliers, landowner’s, Landlords, contractors, members of the public, customers, HSE and Environmental Health Officers, insurers and the press


Personal Professionalism

  • Read and comply with the Company Handbook
  • Visit and work at other Forest Café or sites and attend training, as required

Person Specification



1.      Must be punctual, with a professional outlook, able to work under own initiative without supervision

2.      Basic First Aid Certificate – we will supply this if not obtained before joining Go Ape

3.      Basic Food Hygiene Certificate – we will supply this if not obtained before joining Go Ape

4.      Customer service background with drive and enthusiasm to achieve

5.      Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and high standard of personal hygiene and appearance

6.      Must be an enthusiastic team player and be able to work with other colleagues in a dynamic business

7.      High energy levels with cheerful disposition and the ability to work under pressure

8.      Must be able to demonstrate attention to detail and follow company procedures

9.      Full driving licence and own transport
